And this Comment: 26 Kristina Libby 12.29.08 at 3:02 pm

I published a blog in response to your post on our site: biztropolis.ning.com, that will run in a couple of days. But I wanted to thank you, this post was great and my 12 things to stop would be this:
If I had to write 12 Things to Stop Doing in 2009, they would be
1.) Stop watching the news 24/7. Nothing has changed since yesterday.
2.) Stop thinking about risky chances and just start taking them.
3.) Stop wanting to be an entrepreneur/small business owner and do it already.
4.) Stop saying you will travel the world. Flights to Europe just got a lot cheaper—
anyone for the Azores?
5.) Stop thinking your company will succeed without a social media presence.
6.) Stop thinking that you don’t have to contribute to the discussion.
7.) Stop thinking that the world is going to come to your feet.
8.) Stop thinking you don’t have to work for it because he didn’t have to.
9.) Stop thinking economic recession means you are doomed to failure (see Iceland and geothermal warming).
10.) Stop thinking you don’t have what it takes….
11.) Stop believing that filling your life with things/meetings/work means you are living a full life.
12.) Stop. Stop reading. Stop doing. Stop wasting time avoiding thinking.

Best,
K

We had to staycation

Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T

Man.....LARGE disappointment occurred yesterday when on the way to the airport for our week long adventure to Key West, I realized we had missed our flight.  "Complete and utter dumbass" as Bill calls it. Neither one of us had read the itinerary correctly....we've had the thing for 3 months...and yes, BOTH of us read the itinerary as LEAVING at 3:45.   This in fact was our arrival time....so arriving at the airport at one did us no good for a flight that was to have left at noon.  2hours on the phone with US AIR (not very friendly) and Travelocity (not friendly either) we were not able to book a later flight -
NOTHING.  "Ms. Flanigin, we can get you on a flight on Wednesday."  Bite me lady.

Ok....so 2 hours later, fortunately we are relieved to find out that we did get a full refund for the hotel and we have a credit for the air fare.  What happens if US Air goes out of business. I think we will try and get a refund through our travel insurance.

Really, I do and did feel sorry for my self. This was our long ago-planned Christmas present to each other.  It was a bright spot on long work day to look at the hotel web site or day dream about our sailing excursion booked for new years eve.

My sweet hubby took over the phone negotiations for me and then booked us a few nights at Hotel San Jose here in Austin-- a cool modern suite too.  We got our room and cruised down congress to the South Congress Cafe's turquoise and orange recycled glass bar and ordered a pomegranate margarita or 4.   Already I feel a little better. I can't seem to find the sun or a beach or a hammock.  I did find sweetness in my husband as he was just as disappointed as I was...and we were both thanking God that it wasn't ONE of us that had read that ticket wrong. Can you imagine if it had been ALL my fault, or ALL his fault.  So, we dumbass together here at the San Jose. Smiling because we are a WE.....cuddling in a cozy bed and thankful for days off and that the city we live in is itself, a hip spot to vacation.

Yesterday, I was so saddened by the loss of something I had looked forward to for so long. And today I realize that I get to look forward to that trip to key west still.  Casa Marina waits for us--and maybe at cheaper rates since it won't be Christmas time....and US Air...well...maybe that will get us there on another day.  And our sailing excursion ...the one we had already paid for--no refunds, and no rescheduling..... Well, I called him yesterday and asked if we could transfer it to another party so someone else could at least enjoy. He said sure and thought it was a fun idea and would have the couple he gave the trip to write us a note.... "Nah, just tell them to pay it forward....make someones day for us..." we suggested.

A few minutes later, Sunny from the sailing harbor called and said,  "Ms Flanigin...ya know...if you ever do make it down this way...we'll save this sail for you...just call me and we'll take you on your trip."  No such luck from the outsourced Indian workers from US Air and Travelocity.

I thought that was pretty dang cool and we look forward to a trip only delayed.....and are grateful for the surprise of our staycation here in Austin.

oh and...no more plane trips during the holidays....and I will read my tickets CAREFULLY from now on.  I do not look good in dumbass...neither does Bill.

I've been warned not to read this unless I want to quit my job

well, I don't want to quit my work....but I am curious about the book...and so I read on.

The 4 Hour Work Week
by Timothy Feriss: pp. 32
"Alternative periods of activity and rest is necessary to survive, let alone thrive. Capacity, interest, and mental endurance all wax and wane. Plan accordingly."

The heading to this mini paragraph is: " Interest & Energy are Cyclical." <-------this describes me about almost everything. Ahh...to feel known...and then to be loved past that knowing.

More to come later:

Also bought to read in the next few days or weeks or whatever....Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and The Dip by Seth Godin. Do you sense a theme? I do and oh how I heart a theme.

Manthie is 13

Happy Birthday Manthie! I hope you enjoy your M&M pancakes and diet coke! I love to see you so happy! You are a beautiful, sweet, and HILARIOUS young woman! Your spirit blesses me and I am so glad to be your step mom!

7.   http://agentgenius.com/?cat=673  ok so I find many, many things on AgentGenius’ site and I find it cool that they are here in Austin, Texas, my hometown.  I chose the subject of “Coaching” because, DUH, that is what I do and can’t help be driven to drive your mind to resources other than straight real estate that include ways to become your very best self.  From the category of “coaching” aka=673…you can find the pure homepage and explore from there – you won’t be disappointed.  Again….a gathering of many minds and authors.

10.I'll finishing this list by Cheating—I wanted to limit my first list to TEN however as a bonafide information junkie I can’t let you not know that there is so much more out there. My own thoughts are there, and even more important, my passion for introducing you to all these other thinkers out there.  If you visit http://www.crowscouch.com, well, I’m just happy to be LAST on your list!

oh yeah....video baby.

videook so my friend Antonia from work did one of these videos with her daughter and posted it on facebook...said it was the BEST time with her daughter laughing. So I suggested it to Will and Samantha. Will, being 16 next week, was initially too cool...and Samantha was SO in. She actually showed up today after the weekend at her mom's asking to do this video TONIGHT! And so.....3 takes later, here is out goofy country video. We aren't very talented...but we did have a blast...even Will had to get in and participate. I cherish the fun we had working on this silly project and the laughs it brings as we watch our music video. As will says, GOOD TIMES!

  1. saw MILK last Sunday with Bill and Terri....GREAT movie.

  2. went to a kindergarten birthday party yesterday with Blythe and was so blessed at how her friends treat and include her. because of RETT, she can't talk or hold things...I wonder what goes through her mind most of the time...but I can tell some times: like when she FINALLY went up to the balloon artist and stood right next to him saying "I've waited patiently for all these other kids and now it is MY turn for a balloon." and when she came over and leaned on my shoulder saying, "i need a little rest aunt sissy."

  3. scheduled work outs with the trainer--otherwise I would never have gone. I'm getting stronger, leaner, and firmer!

  4. that our key west vacation is almost here!

  5. that our back yard project is in full swing and looking great.

  6. Christmas cards from long lost but not forgotten friends

  7. the yummy lunch i will have today (can you hear my tummy growling)

  8. hankers mcgregor and hankers mcgee the bestest and coolest pooch ever even with

my long tail in blogging is a squirrel tale? what the...

apparently I have a "long tail" in the blog world on this blog. and of all things...it is a squirrel tale. I know this personal blog doesn't attract a wide range of readers...mostly my family and a few friends. However, I crack up every time I look at my reporting of how readers or at least clickers get to this caw of mine.....and most often someone has searched SQUIRREL BITES.

Yes folks, the Crow's Caw is the #8 result on Google for the search term "SQUIRREL BITES."

I'm so glad that despite my frequent rants, my thoughts about life, my gratitude lists, and even my real estate musings.......well....squirrel bites.....that is almost as bad as the STORY behind said squirrel bites.

I'm glad, as far as blogging goes to have a "LONG TAIL" but how in the heck did it end up a SQUIRREL TALE?

A little affirmation goes a long way!

just got this over the wire...and yes I'm posting to the world...or 10 readers of this blog that I'm a rock star...makes me ask...who is one person that makes a difference in your life....and go and tell... Man it made a diffenerce to me! Thanks Sam!
ACFlan,

After dropping by your office this morning, I thought I
should put in writing what I told you in person. Feel free to use this any
way you want to.

Even though I don’t have business related things
to do every day, I come in to the office every day except for weekends. I
do this for several reasons. One is simply because I can’t work at home –
too many distractions. I need the structure and routine that comes from
being in the office. Another reason is just because it really helps me to
be around people. Whether I am with someone talking about business, just
hanging out having a casual conversation or saying hi as I pass someone in the
lobby, I need to be around people. Another reason I come to the office is
you. You are one of the people who just makes me smile. You are
energetic, intelligent, creative, awesome at what you do and just fun to be
around. You are a lot like my 14 year old daughter, Chrissie. Every
time I see Chrissie, I smile. She is like a ray of sunshine. You are
just like that - when you walk into a room, it becomes a little
brighter.

TTFN,

Bill's Version of Hanging Christmas ligths

Tales from the Classroom, and partly why I no longer am a schoolteacher

I taught elementary and jr. high school for 5 years. The first year as a kindergarten teacher was AMAZING....I remember laughing and smiling all the time that year....all the hilarious stories. LOVED every second of it. And that was the end of the teaching honeymoon.

I did end up marrying a school teacher and so the stories continue. He has been teaching almost 24 years. Here are two Bill experienced in the last 2 weeks...both FIRSTS:

A boy, who will remain anonymous, was in my room this morning
opening up a small plastic wrapped item. I heard from the corner of the
room, as he looked at his item is a confused manner, "EWWW, a tampon!"
Apparently, he found a tampon on the ground and thought it was some sort of
candy. Soooo, he picked it up to eat in my class. Yes...I have tampon
eaters in my class. When he realized what it was, he ran up to me with
the most awful look on his face and put said pon on my desk! I told
him that I didn't want his tampon and asked him to please throw it in the
trash.

Then I gave him some Purell, just because
...
I could not stop laughing!

*****************************************

A girl just threw up on my desk. My "work station" is sporting a nice shiny gloss and a few chuncklets as well.
I am going to vomit...

The Stand UP desk has be come the DANCE desk today!

Interesting phenomenon occurred today:

We moved in to our new building on Nov 1 and I have been using a stand up desk for various reasons (that is another entry due to time this morning).

Today, for the first time in while, I opened up my i tunes account to listen to the new Dido CD....and said stand up desk has become dance desk. Sweet....even better for my body and my mood!
